• Great exercise excuses

It is a truth universally acknowledged that there is always a greater reason not to do a given task than to do it. This is because it is easier to do nothing than to do something.

Exercising is one of those things that we find a way of avoiding by giving ourselves an excuse not to do it. As if we are the gym teacher from our school days and every day we are handing ourselves a metaphorical note from our mums with a different excuse as to why we canִ get off the couch.

Even the Olympics, Paralympics and Andy Murray canִ inspire some of us to get our bodies moving and get ourselves fitter.

    Donִ have the time

This is a common excuse of the exercise avoider. There are simply not enough hours in the day they will say for me to go for a jog or to get down to the gym.

Strangely there will be time for crap TV or playing Angry Birds on your phone. Your body needs to move and you should make time for exercise. For instance, you could cycle to work and kill two not so angry birds with one stone.

    Donִ have the right kit

You are not going to be forced to jog in your pants if you donִ have the right kit. Just wear an old t-shirt and shorts and start to build up a sweat.

However, it would be sensible to make sure that you have a decent pair of running shoes if you plan to go jogging. You donִ need to spend a fortune but if you wear worn out trainers you could develop problems like plantar fasciitis.

If you have problems with your running shoes then foot orthotics could help and eliminate any discomfort you may have.

    My back is killing me

When you are out you and about you must have seen joggers running wearing ligament knee supports. If they can get out there with a knee problem there is no reason why you canִ.

Obviously, you donִ want to do cause serious damage to your body but by doing regular exercise you can build up core strength which will actually get rid of those little aches and pains.

    Not fit enough

A common excuse is that people donִ feel fit enough to exercise. The only way you can get fit enough to exercise is to exercise. There is no reason to put it off because you are not fit enough as by this logic you will never be fit enough.

The key is to put together an exercise programme where you can slowly build up your strength and fitness. Make sure you have achievable goals and before you know it you will be exercising with the best of them.
