    Our Interview

How did you get into strength athletics?
When I was at school I used to play rugby. I was overweight and wanted to lose weight and so got into cycling and then weighting lifting at a local gym in Kendal. Someone there suggested I got involved in weight lifting and I went with them to watch an event. I entered my first competition in Manchester age 19. I started doing more competitions after that. I did a qualifier in Leeds and was second and got through. I also helped at the 2010 World Strongest Man in South Africa. I was pretty star struck!

When does this year’s event take place?
It will take place from September 24 РOctober 1 in LA. Before the event there are medical checks and then four days of qualifiers. There are five guys taking part from England. The event is split into five groups of six including the Loading Race, Truck Pull, Squat Lift, Keg Toss, Deadlift (for Reps) and Giant Tyre Yoke. The top two from each event goes through to the finals.

Do you have a favourite event?
I֭ good at the Deadlift. My personal best is 410kg.

What equipment do you use to train with?
I use Exertain equipment like weights and bars but also have Strongman equipment which has been design especially for me to help prepare for the event before I fly out.

Are you working on any side projects at the moment?
Last year I started working on my own brand of products called Pink Protein. Itֳ completely for the female market whom I have developed a range of health supplements for.
