• Usain Bolt is Back on Track and Better

Round three of the Diamond League in Rome will be our first chance to see the Olympic running champion Usain Bolt back on track after Achilles problems and a back injury, which lead to his defeat at the 100 meters in Stockholm last August.

Bolt, a triple world record-holder, had an impressive two year unbeaten streak until the race in Stockholm saw him miss out to Tyson Gay. The Jamaican’s return on Thursday, May 26 (today) is now being waited for with a mixture of anticipation and excitement to see whether or not he is truly back on track or whether his injuries have taken its toll on this world class sprinter.

Bolt had suffered from Achilles tendon problems and tightness in his lower back. A visit to a world-renowned sports injury clinic in Munich revealed a tightness that restricts his ability to perform powerful strides. A condition which can also develop into tight hamstring and calf muscles.

Speaking of his defeat, Bolt told BBC Sport: “Yes – Tyson beat me and he deserved it. As long as I am in shape, I have no worries.”

After he pulled out of the Stockholme race in 2010, Bolt vowed to come back stronger than ever, and it seems he’s ready for a fight. Bolt has stated to the sporting world that he is “100 per cent fit”. Definitely a good thing as he and his rival, the former world record holder Asafa Powell, will both be taking part in the men’s 100m today.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
