• Football Injury? Make Sure You Wear The Right Kit!

At PhysioRoom.com we play a ӦriendlyӠgame of football each week on a Tuesday evening for a mixture of fitness, fun and team building. Weֶe been doing this for a couple of years now without any serious injuries to note, something I had to be the first to change.

I was in possession running down one of the wings when I pushed the ball forward slightly to try and beat one of the opposition for pace. Bad idea, as soon as I did he lunged in and sent me flying across the pitch, OK maybe it was a fair challenge but it certainly sent me flying. I landed on my right wrist and immediately feared the worst, however I managed to play the rest of the game and scored, hoping that this would earn me the nickname Linekar, it didnִ.

The next day I made the trip down to the hospital to find out the severity of the injury, praying for a sprain as I had a snowboarding holiday booked in a couple of weeks later. Turns out I had not only broken my wrist but had broken the bone that takes the longest of any to heal, the dreaded Scaphoid. Then came the sentence I was dreading… ӵnfortunately these can take a long time to heal and you may have to wear a cast for quite some time, these injuries can take up to a year to fully recoverӮ

The plaster cast was put on and stayed in place for six weeks, until I went back for an x-ray to check on progress. Not much had happened in those six weeks and the wrist was still broken, however I was told that I could shed the cast and wear a brace instead. The hospital gave me a fairly poor piece of kit to wear but I knew that it only had to last until I got back to work that afternoon where I could swap it for one of our advanced designs. The wrist support that I went for was PhysioRoom.com Wrist Brace With Thumb Splint which offered me much greater support. This change from a pot was a lifesaver, not only was it more comfortable it was also removable making washing and showering much easier. Comfort without compromise.

Twelve weeks later and the wrist is almost there, I֬l be returning to football next week but wonִ be forgetting my trusty wrist support, hopefully this time I can manage to stay on my feet!!
