• Working Out at Home

The nights are getting colder and you may not feel like jogging in the cold. Especially when you get home from work and your house is nice and toasty. If you donִ want to tramp the streets you can always work out at home.

We are all very busy these days and need to find time to exercise so if we can do a workout that does not take too long but will get our heart beating then so much the better. Some of these activities will take less than half an hour to do.

If you are just starting out on your fitness regime you may prefer to workout at home. It may be a comfort to know that your first aid kit is close to hand should you overdo things.

    Kettlebell workout

A kettlebell is not a kettle with a bell on it to tell you when it has boiled. It is a weight that has been described as being like ӡ cannonball with a handleӠthat is used to perform cardiovascular exercises.

The author of the book Kettlebells for Dummies, Sarah Lurie, reckons, Ӂ kettlebell workout can be done in less than half the time of a typical workout and burns twice as many calories.ӠThis is because it makes you use all your muscles and gets your heart pumping at the same time.

    Indoor Cycling

Roads are busy and you probably donִ want to be cycling down the off-road cycle track now that the nights are drawing in. Well why not cycle indoors and keep up to date with your favourite soap while you do it.

If you suffer from knee pain you should take it easy, particularly if you have not cycled for a while. You will feel it in your thighs and knees if you have not recently ridden your bike.

All you need to is to set your bike up in your living room. You will need a rear wheel trainer which raises your bike off the floor. The front wheel can then be raised up as well on a trainers block and you are ready to peddle away furiously.

During an episode of EastEnders depending on how quickly you have been going you will have lost over 400 calories by sitting on the bike instead of the sofa.

    Yoga

This is an excellent way to lose weight but it is also useful if you are coming back from injury. For instance, if you have suffered a knee ligament injury and are wearing a ligament knee support you can use yoga to strengthen the knee muscles.

Each time you do it you will find yourself becoming stronger and more flexible. Start off by doing the basic poses but if you keep at it before long you will be able to tackle the more complex positions.

    Jogging on the spot

If you still fancy a run but donִ want to go out why not just jog on the spot. Again you can do this watching the telly and while it may seem a little dull at least you will have done something.
