What is the Aircast A2 Wrist Brace With Thumb Spica?

It is a lightweight and adaptable brace for the wrist and thumb.

It caters for a range of injuries by incorporating removable stabilisers, which you can add or remove depending on the type of support you require.

This adjustability adds to the overall comfort of the brace, which is made from a fully-washable Breath-O-Prene fabric to help keep the wrist dry and ventilated.

When can I use it?

  • Designed to be worn all day while undertaking typical everyday activities
  • Use for wrist injuries such as a broken or sprained wrist, or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Use for thumb injuries such as a broken or sprained thumb (Skier's Thumb), or deQuervain's syndrome

Which size do I need?

Measure around wrist at widest point. If you are between sizes, please choose the larger size.

  • Small 12.7-16.5cm (5-6.5'')
  • Medium 15.9-19.7cm (6.25-7.75'')
  • Large 19-22.9cm (7.5-9'')

How does it work?

The dual stabilisers - one which fits onto the inside of your wrist and one which fits onto the outside - help keep the wrist secure and supported. The thumb spica, meanwhile, provides that extra stability to the thumb. This support is vital when recovering from a broken bone, as keeping the area immobile will speed up the healing process.

If you no longer need the wrist or the thumb to be as secure, the stabilisers can be removed, ensuring the Aircast A2 Wrist Brace With Thumb Spica is customisable for your needs.

Good splint, Compact and easier to hide under clothes.

All in all this is a good product. Its lost stars for a couple of reasons.

The first one I had broke after less than a months wear. The metal splint on the hand rubbed through the end causing the mental bar to stick out of the top. I think this was a one off and Physio room replaced it for me straight away. Good customer service on the replacement apart from the fact that I had to pay to return a faulty item!

Despite having measured my wrist accurately I still found there is a lot of excess Velcro on this product. This has meant that I have managed to ruin numerous work tops and pairs of tights and kept scratching my face with the uncovered Velcro hooks. Its easily solved by cutting the excess off and sticking this over the exposed hooks. You just don't expect to have to adapt things like this.

I have this one and a Physio room own make splint. I would say this is more compact but does the same job so easier to wear under work clothes without people noticing. Of course this is double the price. Its less padded so I found I wore this one during the day and the Physio room one at night.

I have chronic pain in my wrist. I am in constant pain but find that the less use my wrist gets, the less pain I am in and the more use I am!! I wear this almost constantly and if allows me to work and do my job as anyone else does. I have been wearing these supports for 8 years now and the quality is always excellent and consistent.
My only criticism is that the metal that runs up to the palm of my hand tends to create a hold in the end of the support which creates a blister on my hand. I have found that filing down the metal by a couple of millimetres solves the problem and doesn't affect the support's function!
Overall a great product and I really don't know what I would do without it!! Good value for money too!!

Overall, excellent product. Gives great support, I broke Scaphoid. Only negative is I found I really had to wear tubigrip or thin but cushioned sock material inside it. There are seems, stitching etc on inside and very quickly will dig into skin with any pressure at all on straps, which is necessary to ensure support. As long as you do that then supportive and gives confidence. I found sizing spot on, exactly as described.

My wife developed tendinitis in the wrist just prior to a cruise. The doctor advised against a cortisone injection at this point as if there wer problems he would be unable to do much to help. So I purchased the splint, which my wife wore most of the time on the cruise. It made a huge difference, especially at night when she suffered great pain if inadvertantly moving while asleep. On our return the doctor gave the injection, and after a week or so her wrist returned to normal. No more problems. Good product!

It's a dangerous sport. Sticks, stones, just lose concentration for a moment and it's easy to fall. These thumb and wrist protectors are fabulous. I bought one for each hand and took out the metal support bits. I wear them when I skate, have had a few spectacular falls since using them but no injuries. It's still possible to change mp3 tunes with fingers when wearing these while skating. Altogether an excellent solution. Sizing info by other reviewers was spot on for me too. Easy to wash. Highly recommend.

“Wrist Brace Review”

After a recent accident I broke both wrists and even after spending 8 weeks in plaster I still had problems with my wrists and thumbs.

The NHS wrist and thumb splints were just not strong enough to enable me to go back to work and so I started to look for alternatives and decided to purchase the Aircast Wrist braces.

After reading the reviews which were very helpful with regard to sizes which do come up slightly larger my wrists at the forearm were 8" and the Wrist 7" so opted for the medium which are a perfect fit.

They are strong and the velcro is of a superior quality however they do not have a strong sturdy shell as described. However, after wearing them for just a short period of time I have felt the throbbing pain in my wrists just fade to a dull ache as they now have the support they werent getting in my NHS supports

I would recommend this product.

“Fantastic product, a real helping hand!”

After fracturing my wrist and becoming horrified at the stench of casts and NHS neoprene supports, I thought I'd treat myself to something to help the poor old bones get better. This is incredibly supportive, well made and worth every penny! Slightly too much velcro grip when removing the aircast as it causes some pain to do so, but really keeps it in place and well protected during use. Would recommend wearing a tubigrip support underneath for added stability as the sizes are slightly larger than described (or my wrists are smaller than my measuring skills allow!), this also elongates time of wear between washes.

Great product!

“good if you order right size & not quite as described”

The actual brace is supportive though on discription it says "It has a strong but lightweight plastic shell that protects and immobilises the wrist and thumb as well as an old fashioned plaster cast" and it did not seem to me to have a plastic shell and was nothing like a plaster cast, and be careful which size you order as i ordered a medium as my wrist size is 6.4" which was between small and medium so i thought to order medium incase of swelling but that was too big so i had to re-order a small, but the product itself when get you get right size is quite good and supportive.

“Excellent support with A2 wrist brace.”

I broke my scaphoid in a fall and was put in a cast by the hospital. After 6 weeks, the cast was removed but my arm was not right. The x-ray was showing the bone was healing, but I couldn't move my wrist and was in a lot of pain. While in the cast I had no problems at all.
I was put in a small, flimsy cheap NHS removable cast, with the velcro fasteners which did absolutely no good at all.I am unable to go back to work and am losing almost £300 a week, something I cannot afford to do.
I saw this A2 wrist brace and decided to try it as it looked like a quality and robust item.
The A2 Wrist brace is a superbly made and extremely effective cast and I have been incredibly impressed with it.I am no longer in pain, and am able to pick things up (within reason) and was able to drive my car for the first time since the accident.
I am now hoping to go back to work in less than a week, possibly 2 weeks earlier than planned. This wrist brace cost me less than £30 but is going to save me well over £600 and give me the support and protection I need at work to prevent further injury.
I would certainly recommend this product.
