Rehab and Fitness
In order to undergo a healthy lifestyle Physioroom are at hand to offer a huge range of equipment and tools to promote wellbeing, prevent injuries and aid rehabilitation from injury or surgery. Although some rehabilitation will take place in a Physiotherapy setting, home exercises are key components to regaining full function and strength to return to sport and activity.
Depending on your needs effective Rehabilitation tools include; Resistance bands and tubes, Swiss balls, Wobble boards and Cushions, Muscle Stimulators and TENS machines.
Impaired balance can affect everyday life. Previous injury, the ageing process and inappropriate shoes can all reduce the sense of balance and make walking more difficult and falls more likely. At Physioroom we offer a range of Wobble boards and cushions to help restore balance and proprioception either following an injury such as an ankle strain or to prevent injuries as part of sport training or fall prevention strategies.
To prevent injures; massage balls and foam rollers are increasingly popular pieces of apparatus to perform self-myofascial release and break down adhesions within the muscle fibres and restore flexibility to tissues.
After severe injury when weight bearing is restricted, exercising in water may offer a great way to eliminate the stress and impact of ground landing forces so that muscles can strengthen, stay flexible and prevent wasting (atrophy) during disuse. Following injuries such as fractures of the foot or lower extremity, exercising in water can be an extremely useful way to keep fit and active. Using a buoyancy aid such as the Water Floatation belt can help maintain the body’s position in water whilst you carry out exercise or a running action (aqua jogging).
Injuries of the upper limb can also benefit from exercising in water, the use of Supasoft Aqua-DS weights can help early rehabilitation of Shoulder injuries, especially if the joint has been immobilised for a period of time. Hand Therapy tools such as Grip Strengtheners or Therapeutic balls can also be great to promote circulation and be used in early rehabilitation of upper limb injuries.
Exercising against elastic bands, loops or tubes is a fantastic way to strengthen muscles in multi-planar directions. In everyday life we don’t just use the bicep muscles in a bicep curl action we twist, reach and rotate our joints to complete functional tasks. Resistance bands can provide resistance in all manner of movements. Ideal for later stage rehabilitation following injuries such as rotator cuff tears, ankle sprains or knee conditions. Bands, tubes and loops all offer excellent options, with differing levels of resistance so that functional strengthening can be carried out.
If someone is particularly injury prone, exercising in water or Core Stability training may become a critical component of training, using suspension training, Swiss balls and Wobble boards or cushions can all aid the strengthening of the body’s natural corset that consists of deep abdominal and spinal muscles.
