The hip joint is a very strong , stable and flexible weight baring joint. The most common injuries in the hip are hip osteoarthritis, lateral hip pain(gluteal tendinopathy or bursitis), hip (femoroacetabular) impingement and muscular thigh strains (hamstrings or quads).
These sort of injuries are often minor and can be managed using the principles of POLICE under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
Occasionally more severe trauma can occur in the form of fractures or cartilage tears. If you have had a traumatic injury and are unable to weight bare, you must seek an urgent medical assessment. For non-traumatic injuries management involves a combination of strengthening , dynamic balance and progressive loading exercises using the principles of POLICE under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
