How does it work?

The Smith & Nephew Exogen™ Express Bone Healing System accelerates healing of fresh wrist and shin fractures up to 38% faster than normal healing times. It's a portable Ultrasound device to stimulate mechanical receptors in the bone to produce faster bone healing. This results in a quicker return to work and sport following a broken bone.

It's light, portable and easy for patients to use at home, with push button application and simple to follow instructions. It can still be used even if you're wearing a plaster cast. It's the only bone stimulator that uses low-intensity ultrasound, which means it only has to be worn for 20 minutes each day, for up to 3 months.

When can I use it?

• To speed up healing of fresh fractures such as a broken shin or broken ankle (Malleolar fracture, Bi-Malleolar fracture, Tri-Malleolar fracture, Potts fracture, ankle fracture dislocation, broken Tibia) or a broken wrist (broken Radius, broken Scaphoid, Colles fracture).
• To ensure bone healing where there are complications such as Delayed Healing, Delayed Union or Fracture Non Union. Safe to use with metal implants, such as screws, plates and nails.
• For use under the care of your doctor.
• Not suitable for skull or vertebral fractures.
• Not suitable for children, pregnant women, people with malignant tumours, thrombophlebitis, vascular insufficiency, abnormal skin sensitivity, sensory paralysis, alcoholism, nutritional deficiency; or individuals receiving steroid, anti-coagulant, prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, calcium channel blocker and/or diphosphonate therapy.
• With active, implantable devices, such as cardiac pacemakers, operation may be adversely affected by close exposure to the EXOGEN(tm) device; therefore, evaluation during EXOGEN treatment by the attending cardiologist or physician is recommended.
