Resistance Bands, Loops & Tubes

Resistance bands, tubes and loops are excellent products for use in the rehabilitation of sports injuries. An array of home exercises can be completed using resistance bands, and chartered physiotherapists use them to help speed up the recovery from sports injuries.

Resistance Bands are also extremely beneficial in muscle strengthening and strength training. The differing levels of resistance available allow you to change the intensity of your workout to match your own fitness goals.

At PhysioRoom we have a wide range of individual resistance bands differing in resistance level, and if you are unsure what resistance level you need, or you would prefer a mix of different resistances to make sure you can change the difficulty and intensity of your workouts, you can shop a resistance band set instead.

Each resistance band is colour coded, where the colour corresponds to a different strength of resistance. The lightest weight is yellow, which is a great place to start with rehabilitation after injury or surgery. As strength is built up, red and green bands offer the next stage of medium resistance. Blue and finally black heavy resistance bands offer the most resistance. The different grades of resistance allow a great way to progress strengthening regimes and build up a tolerance to the increasing load.

Resistance bands are pieces of elastic or fabric tubing that can be cut to suitable lengths. You can then use them to strengthen different parts of the body. Resistance bands are often preferred to weights following specific injuries or surgery. This is because they are extremely versatile. They also offer resistance in multi-planar directions to effectively strengthen muscles and tendons.

Resistance bands allow many different degrees of rotation to be added into your rehabilitation. This is important as it more accurately replicates movements used during normal function. After using a resistance band, muscles and tendons gain strength in all directions. This is particularly important in protecting against dislocations and impact injuries. In the immediate term after an injury, a leg brace or support for the injured area is ideal, however once your rehabilitation has began, resistance bands are the perfect choice to help build up strength again.

Like with any strengthening regime, it is good to give yourself a couple of days off to allow the muscles to adapt. An example could be exercising with the resistance band for two days and then having a rest day. Then completing another two days of exercise. If the same muscles are worked every day they do not have time to adapt and get stronger. The day off is where the strength changes will occur.

Resistance Band Sets

The advantages of resistance bands over free weights and pulley systems include the fact that bands are lightweight and portable. This means that they can be used practically anywhere. Also, resistance bands react to the strength of the user - which means they'll only resist as much as you do.

Resistance bands have the advantage of being used in functional, sports-specific patterns. This means that patients can strengthen sports-related movement patterns. Resistance band sets containing a range of different strengths are ideal for training different areas of the body. They will also help you build and improve your muscle strength over time.

Exercise Bands for Workouts

Resistance bands are often referred to as exercise bands, fitness bands, or workout bands. Fitness stretch bands can be used for toning and strengthening muscles. Use them with those muscles that contribute to rotational movements. It can be tricky with rigid weight machines or dumbbells to target these muscles.

Resistance bands workouts are a versatile and effective way to build strength. Use short resistance loops to train your legs and glutes when doing a range of exercises such as squats, glute bridges, kickbacks and more. Long resistance bands and tubes are great for training your upper body and core. Placing them around a solid object or hold them down with your feet for a range of arm, shoulder, ab and back exercises. Choose from elastic or fabric resistance bands for banded workouts.

Body Strength Training Level

At Physioroom you'll find a wide variety of physio resistance bands with several resistance levels. This allows you to choose a resistance band to suit you. The strength of a band is rated by colour. Yellow is the lightest, and blue is the strongest. Select a type of band that fits your fitness levels or workout routine. The tension range indicates how much tension will be created in the band during use. The more tension, the harder it is to extend. Choose higher tension levels to emulate a heavy weight.

Resistance Band Workouts

Resistance band training is a great way to exercise. Using many types of bands you can emulate a variety of exercises. This way, you can train a large number of muscle groups with just one piece of equipment. Resistance bands are a simple piece of fitness equipment that will improve your quality of life. Before jumping straight in we recommend speaking to a physical therapist. They can recommend you the correct resistance level for you.

Range of Motion

Bands are perfect for physical therapy as they allow you to exercise many types of motion. Using different bands and positions you can perform a variety of motions. This will let you strengthen specific muscles. Use looped bands to improve your quadriceps in squats, use resistance tubes to train upper arm strength, or use a stretch band for stretching exercises and yoga. This freedom and variety is one of the great benefits of resistance bands.
