What is it?

How does it work?

Large inflatable balls were first used by physiotherapists in Switzerland during the 1960's for the gymnasium treatment of orthopaedic and neurology patients, hence the term Swiss Ball.

The main reason for the growth in popularity of the Swiss Ball is its versatility. Its range of uses has spread from clinical applications by physiotherapists to home based conditioning use, as part of an everyday fitness program. Whether your goal is improved sitting posture, strength, flexibility or balance and core stability - the Swiss Ball is ideal. Includes FREE exercise chart.

The Swiss Ball is an integral tool in most Core Strength training programs. These programmes are designed to strengthen the core muscles of the trunk and pelvis, which are important for posture and sporting activities.

Always inflate using the PhysioRoom.com Swiss Ball pump - do not use powered air pumps as they can cause the ball to be over inflated and liable to split.

When to use it?

Many elite athletes from English Premier League football (soccer), the NHL, and the NBA use this technique and their strength and conditioning coaches realise what a valuable tool the Swiss Ball is.

Swiss Balls can be used for the treatment and prevention of back pain, hamstring muscle injuries, Gilmore's Groin and overuse running injuries such as Runner's Knee, Achilles Tendonitis, Shin Splints and Tibialis Posterior Syndrome.

Which size do I need?

The ball size should match the person using it:

• 55cm (22") ball for users 155-165cm (5'2" - 5'6") tall
• 65cm (26") ball for users 165-185cm (5'6" - 6'0") tall
• 75cm (30") ball for users 175-190cm (5'10" - 6'4") tall
