Description

What is the McDavid Carpal Tunnel Wrist Support?

One size fits all basic lightweight Carpal Tunnel Syndrome wrist support.

When can I use it?

The McDavid Carpal Tunnel Wrist Support allows full finger movement meaning it's particularly useful during work related activities.

Which size do I need?

One size fits all. Choose left or right wrist.

How does it work?

In normal circumstances the pressure within the Carpal Tunnel is less than 10mmHg, but in patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome this pressure rises to above 30mmHg due to swelling. During wrist movements the pressure in the Carpal Tunnel can rise to over 90mmHg. Increased pressure leads to increased symptoms, such as burning pain, tingling and numbness.

Research has shown that using a wrist brace to prevent wrist movement is effective in relieving Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in over 80% of patients.

The McDavid Carpal Tunnel Wrist Support is a basic wrist support with a supportive splint and Velcro strap to keep the wrist in a neutral position. This relieves the pressure in the Carpal Tunnel and provides relief from symptoms.

“Perfect for my needs, excellent quality product”

Reviewed by Chrimbo on 09 April 2013

After searching for a wrist support for years that isn't too cumbersome (as most are) this is a perfect size, the adjustable fit makes it snug and supportive. I'm so glad I found PhysioRoom.com, might be nice to have a choice of colours.

“Brilliant ... a wrist support that really works!”

My work as a sculptor involves lots of work with my hands ... some of it fairly strenuous. Increasingly, over two or three years, I struggled with repetitive strain injury to my left wrist (broken when I was a child).

After many unsuccessfull attempts to find a solution to the problem, a medical friend advised me to try the McDavid Carpal Tunnel Wrist Support. It arrived promptly and made a huge difference from day one. Six months on and repetitive strain injury has now become a thing of the past ... thanks to the McDavid CT Wrist Support! It has become invaluable to my scuptural practice.

“It is a great help”

It is a great help although I ordered the wrong item which was my fault entirely. I needed a support that supported the thumb more than the wrist. It is a good product though.

“Does the job”

Very good product and does exactly what it says it does. Thank you may have to buy one for the other hand.

“First class piece of equipment”

Damaged wrist many years ago. Found the support given by the McDavid support to be excellent whilst playing golf, although had to remove the splint as it prevented the necessary cocking of the wrist during back swing.

“Affordable aid that eases the pressure to my hand and wrist.”

I orderd this support for my right hand and wrist even though i needed a left one also. I did this simply because i wanted to see if it would actually help with the pain that i get from repetitive strain through typing etc. Driving long disstances also causes discomfort so i wanted something that would help here too. I had already seen my GP and because i am a nurse i knew that if i did not look at prevention, i would be looking at an operation to my wrist. The latter i did not want. So, i searched the web and found this site and through working with pateints and their disabilities i was aware that these supports usually are effective. The cost of these supports did seem reasonable so i obtained one. You can wear them in bed, which i did as wearing one during the day in my job would mean it gets wet every five minutes what with hand washing all of the time! Wearing it in bed was no problem and i must say my hand and wrist did seem to improve and be less uncomfortable during the day. I knew this as i was able to compare it to my left wrist that had no support applied and it felt just as painful in the mornings. I also recently wore it while driving for 8 hours from Yorkshire to Cornwall and it certainly helped ease the pain.
I am impressed with the support and feel i will purchase a left wrist/hand support in the near future.

“Definitely helps control the pain”

I am a 53 year old woman and have had pins and needles and numbness for couple of years one day i woke up and felt like I had my hand crushed so bad was the pain and ache I couldnt pick up a mug of coffee let alone the kettle. I couldn't fasten the seat belt and get what feels like electric shocks when filling the car with fuel...this lasted nearly two weeks then I was advised to get this support and I wear it when Im doing anything too heavy like hoovering, typing, driving and it helps to stop you moving your wrist so much. It doesnt look too pretty but I am certain it helps and I am really pleased i got it a small price to pay for some relief.

“Works a treat!!”

Reviewed by Jimllwaxit on 07 June 2011

I tend to wear this during the evening and through the night and it relieves the wrist pain and numbness in my fingers. The relief also lasts most of the next day at work(cabinet/furniture making).
I also wear it if I am driving on a long journey and it has the same effect.

“Fantastic - excellent”

Reviewed by Caroline Heans on 21 March 2011

I am 52 years old and have had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome since my mid twenties. In the last couple of years it has become very painful and often gives me disturbed sleep. Since I received this wrist support a few days ago I have worn it in bed at night. Once I put it on I have not as yet had any pain or disturbed sleep. I am truly amazed. It does take a little while to get used to wearing it but, it also makes your wrist feel lovely and secure.

I have not used it through the day, I haven't found it necessary. I deliberately used my wrist without restraint just to test out if I would get pain at night - this would be my usual pattern. I ironed for three hours, vacuumed the house etc. Normally that would give me dreadful pain on and off all night. The only way of getting relief before I purchased this support would be to hang my hand out of bed.

Long may this last. I am truly impressed!

“This really DOES work!”

Reviewed by Annie on 10 January 2011

I am a 53 year old woman, and have been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome for about a year. At first I didn't know what it was and as it only seemed to occur at night, I just put up with it waking me up, and obtained relief by hanging my arm over the side of the bed. Gradually it got worse, waking me up several times a night, with a weird tingly, pins and needles sensation and aching, and so I started searching the net for information. A friend had had an op, but I decided to try these wrist supports before I even thought about going down that road, and I didn't go and see my doctor.

I ordered two supports - one for each hand, although my right is worse than the left, and consider it money extremely well spent. The supports arrived quickly, and are easy to put on. I wear the right whenever I am typing - like now! - BOTH in bed at night. Since I have been wearing them at night - four nights now - I have had NO trouble AT ALL! This means I get a much better night's sleep of course.

The support take a little getting used to of course, but I soon found I could type just as quickly with it on as without. In bed at night, they are not the most glamorous things and feel a bit hot, but are not really uncomfortable and are SO highly effective that they are worth it. I wish I had found them and started wearing them sooner!

“Brilliant”

Reviewed by Buffy on 10 September 2010

I have a permenant problem with severe, but not continuous, pain in my hand and wrist, although this support cannot stop the pain, wearing it when I begin to feel pain slows down the onset of the severe pain considerably. I have had several wrist supports but since buying this one ( which arrived the next day) all the others have been consigned to the bin. Very comfortable, easy to put on and, when washed, dries very quickly.
I would highly recommend it.

“Took away the pain”

I suffer from Carpal Tunnel mainly when I dig the garden which causes awful pain through the night & 3 doses of painkillers. This product worn while asleep stopped ALL the pain I experienced, and no painkillers. I wore it for two days and it reduced the finger tingling when I stopped wearing it thereafter, ie it gave the infammation time to reduce. I now wear this when I exert my hand or I feel the tingling increasing. Well made, excellent value & delivered next day.
