What is the McDavid Ankle X?

Measure around shin just above the ankle and match with UK shoe size.

How does it work?
This rigid ankle brace is moulded around the heel and has hinges on either side of the ankle which allow forward and backward foot movement, but totally prevent rocking the ankle over to the side. The ankle sits comfortably in a high quality neoprene sleeve and the whole brace can be custom tightened using a Velcro™ strap.

“Great product and service”

I bought the Ankle X a few weeks ago to support my ankle after damaging the ligaments before Christmas. I wanted a super supportive brace to allow me to return to football and basketball. I used the online chat feature of the site to help me choose which support to buy and it was great. The person (can't remember the name, sorry!) really knew their products and definitely helped me make the right choice.
The Ankle X is a great support, comfortable enough to forget you're wearing it, and supportive enough to completely prevent me from rolling my ankle. It got me playing again several weeks early and will stop me injuring my ankle again.
It is expensive but well worth the money. Only thing to watch would be if your trainers are already tight, you may struggle to get them on over the brace (my basketball trainers are quite a struggle to get on now).
All in all a great product and great service.

After a lifetime of ankle issues due to having my foot reconstructed as a child I have finally found a product that allows me to participate fully in my favourite sports with minimum fear of injury.
At over £50 the McDavid Ankle X is not cheap but worth every penny. Lightweight, superb construction and despiter a bulky appearance it's easy to wear whatever form of footwear you choose (maybe you could rule out flip flops).

Having suffered a serious spain I wanted the maximum protection. Whilst this feels very secure it's a little too bulky for me. I've got small-ish ankles and ordered the correct size for my feet, however it doesn't fit that comfortably in my trainer, infact I'd say it's stretched them about the sides.

Really great product, supports the ankle very well, very stable especially if you're prone to ankle injuries. Great for American Football when changing direction!

Having had many many ankle issues this is by far the best brace i have tried. I really have given it some stick (and so has the dog when he got hold of it) but it has been great. I wear it for all kinds of sports but mainly football (a little bulky but you get used to it) badminton and paintball but in all it has been stable and allowed me to move. Would love it to be cheaper but you get what you pay for.....
