Motion Control (MC) Walker is ideal following Achilles Tendon rupture surgery - allows adjustable range of ankle motion.
Using a simple 'pin hinge' system the MC Walker can be immobilised at the neutral ankle position (where the foot is at 90degree to the shin), or 10 degrees, 20 degrees or 30 degrees each way (either toe up (dorsiflexion) or toe down (plantarflexion). In addition the MC Walker can provide protected range of ankle motion in 7.5 degree increments from 45 degrees of plantarflexion to 30 degrees of dorsiflexion.
Achilles Tendon ruptures used to be put in a plaster cast following surgical repair. This allowed the Achilles Tendon to heal, but left the ankle very stiff and the calf muscles extremely weak. The Donjoy MC Walker allows the orthopaedic surgeon to change the angle of the ankle joint to put gradually more stretch on the healing Achilles Tendon.
On resuming partial weight bearing, the Donjoy MC Walker allows safe walking while still providing protection. By gradually stretching the Achilles Tendon the outcome from surgery has been shown to be improved.
From the initial Achilles Tendon rupture until you are ready to start walking normally after Achilles Tendon repair surgery.
