Description

What is the Aircast XP Diabetic Walker?

A knee high pneumatic walking brace for a higher risk diabetic patient.
It features an adjustable pneumatic cushioning system, plus a high rocker sole and dual density insole to reduce pressure on the diabetic foot.

When can I use it?

  • To reduce swelling and ulceration of the foot.
  • To reduce the pain and discomfort of walking for the higher risk diabetic patient.

What size is it?

Based on UK shoe size:

Shoe Size Conversion Chart

  • Small: UK 4-5.5 EU 37.5-38.5
  • Medium: UK 6-8 EU 39.5-42
  • Large: UK 8-10.5 EU 42.5-45
  • X-Large: UK 10.5 + EU 45 +

How does it work?

Four AirCells inside the hard plastic shell can be custom inflated using the hand bulb (included) for a 'total contact' fit. This provides protection, immobilization and compression for a swollen foot, reducing swelling and pain. A high rocker sole and dual density insole provide maximum off-loading of the diabetic foot and help to eliminate pressure points. The Aircast XP Walker can be taken off to allow rehab exercises and foot washing. This improves hygiene, helps prevent ankle stiffness and muscle wastage.

“Life saver”

Reviewed by KT

Actually had this 12 years ago now and am currently about to purchase the aircast wrist splint for a hairline fracture. Bought it after I 'crushed ankle like a lollypop on concrete' (thanks Doc) and after two weeks of a normal cast the hospital realised my family history of DVT was a very real possibility. Unfortunately they didn't have one spare so my Mother very kindly purchased this for £110 (I'm surprised that such an amazing bit of kit hasn't tripled in price).

What can I say, regardless of diabetes, DVT or other risks, if you can afford this, buy it. I actually sold mine for nearly £70 seven months later so if you keep the inside in good nick you can sell it on! The 'aircells' make all the difference in supporting the exact spot needed. Ridiculously comfortable, you can flip the front off without removing your foot for bathing/dressing changes and with the deflating technique you can scratch front or back without the need for a fork or ruler!

Consultant said it cut my healing time by a good couple of months and I avoided a wheelchair as I could place my foot down without pressure this could use crutches with relative ease.

If you have any sort of injury that requires your lower leg to be kept still, buy it. I still tell people about it over a decade later if I see them in a cast or with a filmsier support. As such I'm headed back to the aircast brand now as I cannot fault their tech one bit.

Hope you feel better soon!

“Effective in reducing swelling”

Reviewed by Anonymous

I have found this very effective in reducing swelling and immobilising my foot following foot surgery. It is infinitely preferable to the other option of a plaster cast as it can be removed at any time, particularly helpful as the foot wound needed surgical dressing. The worst thing about it was that it caused a postural imbalance by adding to the affected leg length and meant my pelvis was at an angle. This led to considerable back pain. However I partly solved this by buying trainers with an extra deep sole for the other foot which meant my pelvis was no longer at quite such a painful angle. The rocker took a day or two to get used to, and going up hills was quite hard but after a week, I had got used to it. I was told that I wouldn't need a stick but have found that a stick helps with balance. Altogether it seems to be a very good piece of equipment.

“This boot is essential for full recovery”

Reviewed by I.Gray

After crushing my Calcaneus Bone I had a steel plate and 9 titanium screws inserted in my heel, this boot is you’re KEY to determine the speed & amount of mobility you will regain after this sort of injury.

It will allow you to walk again and compress any swelling around the heel and reduce any pain. My surgery was in September 2010 and I still wear my boot if my ankle is swollen or painful.

This is been my lifeline in my recovery after this traumatic injury.
