Description

What is the Aircast A2 Wrist Brace with Thumb Spica?

Adjustable, lightweight and removable wrist/thumb brace that can also be used as a protective cast. Protects the wrist and thumb following fractures and sprains while permitting full finger function.

When can I use it?

  • Following a broken wrist or sprained wrist.
  • Following a broken thumb or sprained thumb (Skier's Thumb).
  • Ideal during the healing stage of wrist and thumb ligament injuries and following surgery.
  • When you don't want a smelly wrist stuck inside a heavy old plaster.

Which size do I need?

Measure around wrist at widest point.

  • Small 12.7-16.5cm (5-6.5'')
  • Medium 15.9-19.7cm (6.25-7.75'')
  • Large 19-22.9cm (7.5-9'')

How does it work?

It has a strong but lightweight plastic shell that protects and immobilises the wrist and thumb as well as an old fashioned plaster cast - except it's much easier to wear, and can be removed to allow you to wash and carry out supervised exercises. This speeds up the healing process.

The Aircast A2 Wrist Brace with Thumb Spica has two dual stabilisers above and below the wrist, that are designed to support the wrist and prevent movement. Adjustable Velcro straps ensure a personalised fit.

The Thumb Spica provides additional protection for the thumb and another Velcro strap ensures thumb immobilisation in a neutral position. This is ideal for allowing thumb injuries to heal.

“Did the job”

My wife developed tendinitis in the wrist just prior to a cruise. The doctor advised against a cortisone injection at this point as if there wer problems he would be unable to do much to help. So I purchased the splint, which my wife wore most of the time on the cruise. It made a huge difference, especially at night when she suffered great pain if inadvertantly moving while asleep. On our return the doctor gave the injection, and after a week or so her wrist returned to normal. No more problems. Good product!

“Brilliant protection for rollerbladers :-)”

It's a dangerous sport. Sticks, stones, just lose concentration for a moment and it's easy to fall. These thumb and wrist protectors are fabulous. I bought one for each hand and took out the metal support bits. I wear them when I skate, have had a few spectacular falls since using them but no injuries. It's still possible to change mp3 tunes with fingers when wearing these while skating. Altogether an excellent solution. Sizing info by other reviewers was spot on for me too. Easy to wash. Highly recommend.

“Wrist Brace Review”

Reviewed by Subiacodreamer on 27 June 2012

After a recent accident I broke both wrists and even after spending 8 weeks in plaster I still had problems with my wrists and thumbs.

The NHS wrist and thumb splints were just not strong enough to enable me to go back to work and so I started to look for alternatives and decided to purchase the Aircast Wrist braces.

After reading the reviews which were very helpful with regard to sizes which do come up slightly larger my wrists at the forearm were 8" and the Wrist 7" so opted for the medium which are a perfect fit.

They are strong and the velcro is of a superior quality however they do not have a strong sturdy shell as described. However, after wearing them for just a short period of time I have felt the throbbing pain in my wrists just fade to a dull ache as they now have the support they werent getting in my NHS supports

I would recommend this product and also the delivery and service is first class.

Excellent service.

“Fantastic product, a real helping hand!”

After fracturing my wrist and becoming horrified at the stench of casts and NHS neoprene supports, I thought I'd treat myself to something to help the poor old bones get better. This is incredibly supportive, well made and worth every penny! Slightly too much velcro grip when removing the aircast as it causes some pain to do so, but really keeps it in place and well protected during use. Would recommend wearing a tubigrip support underneath for added stability as the sizes are slightly larger than described (or my wrists are smaller than my measuring skills allow!), this also elongates time of wear between washes.

Great product!

“good if you order right size & not quite as described”

The actual brace is supportive though on discription it says "It has a strong but lightweight plastic shell that protects and immobilises the wrist and thumb as well as an old fashioned plaster cast" and it did not seem to me to have a plastic shell and was nothing like a plaster cast, and be careful which size you order as i ordered a medium as my wrist size is 6.4" which was between small and medium so i thought to order medium incase of swelling but that was too big so i had to re-order a small, but the product itself when get you get right size is quite good and supportive.

“Excellent support with A2 wrist brace.”

I broke my scaphoid in a fall and was put in a cast by the hospital. After 6 weeks, the cast was removed but my arm was not right. The x-ray was showing the bone was healing, but I couldn't move my wrist and was in a lot of pain. While in the cast I had no problems at all.
I was put in a small, flimsy cheap NHS removable cast, with the velcro fasteners which did absolutely no good at all.I am unable to go back to work and am losing almost £300 a week, something I cannot afford to do.
I saw this A2 wrist brace and decided to try it as it looked like a quality and robust item.
I bought it online on Saturday and it arrived on Tuesday and the P&P was very cheap.Excellent service.
The A2 Wrist brace is a superbly made and extremely effective cast and I have been incredibly impressed with it.I am no longer in pain, and am able to pick things up (within reason) and was able to drive my car for the first time since the accident.
I am now hoping to go back to work in less than a week, possibly 2 weeks earlier than planned. This wrist brace cost me less than £30 but is going to save me well over £600 and give me the support and protection I need at work to prevent further injury.
I would certainly recommend this product and company for both excellent quality and service.
