By analysing the PhysioRoom.com Injury database we're able to see how much each Premiership club spends on what is effectively 'sick pay' for their playing staff. A total of 22,716 days were lost by Premiership clubs and players during the 2006/2007 season to injury.

Using the salary data provided in Deloitte's Football Finance report from May 2007, we can show that a total of £81,352,933 was spent by clubs on salaries for injured players. The graph below illustrates how much each club spent (in £ millions) on players who were stuck in the physio room. The average player salary for each club was calculated by dividing the total annual salary cost published in the Deloitte Annual Review of Football Finance (May 2007) by the number of senior professional players within the playing squad of each club. Based on the average player salary level for each club the estimated cost of injuries to each club was calculated based on the number of days lost.
