The following graph shows the total number of days missed by players at each club who were out with a reported 'significant injury' (defined as more than two weeks out). Apart from showing how many days the club's players were unavailable for selection, it allows an estimate of the financial cost of injuries to each club. Chairman and financial directors are especially interested in this, although we know at least one club owner who is not so bothered by the cost!

Steve Bruce recently bemoaned the number of injuries Birmingham City sustained last season saying, "No club was hit by injuries like us." The statistics don't back Bruce's opinion. In fact, Birmingham had an average year when compared to other Premiership clubs, although key players David Dunn, Mikael Forssell and Muzzy Izzet were all out for prolonged periods.
Middlesbrough's Gaizka Mendieta (ACL), Mark Viduka (hamstring), Joseph Desire Job (hamstring and knee) George Boateng (fractured toe), Ugo Ehiogu (calf and knee) and Malcolm Christie (fractured foot and leg) all missed well over three months of the season, so perhaps it's Steve McLaren who should be doing the moaning.
