The average number of reported 'significant' injuries to first team squad members, that kept the player out of action for at least two weeks, was 20. Southampton and Tottenham suffered the most injuries with 33 and 34 each. Harry Redknapp being down to the 'bare bones' was certainly a factor as The Saints slipped out of The Premiership.
Charlton Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and West Brom had the least number of first team players out for more than two weeks. These clubs have small squads and don't have the luxury of squad rotation or time to get players 100% fit. It is even more vital for them that injuries and time out is kept to a minimum.
Of course those teams who play more matches in the FA Cup and Champions League are likely to pick up more injuries. Surprisingly, European Champions Liverpool had less than the average number of injuries, as many people would have thought that Rafa Benitez's first season was characterised as being injury hit. Although the statistics show that there weren't that many injuries in total at Anfield, those that did occur, were fairly serious injuries, meaning that those players were sidelined for a significant length of time.
