A broken neck is thankfully a very rare sports injury, but may occasionally occur in rugby, trampolining and cheerleading. A broken neck or 'spinal injury'' is a medical emergency that requires urgent treatment by appropriately qualified healthcare professionals. All neck pain following significant trauma should be treated as a broken neck until proven otherwise by an assessment by a doctor in the emergency department.
